Outreach

Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium

Since August 2021, I've been a Science Center Interpreter at Flandrau, and since October 2021, I've been a Planetarium Operator at Flandrau. In this role, I've expanded my teaching and outreach skills by presenting science and astronomy-related shows to groups of various sizes and ages and engaging with people on the exhibit floor when they need help with puzzles or have questions. I often present shows for school groups, but I also present shows for the public or special events. It's always been a dream of mine to work at a planetarium, and having this experience at Southern Arizona's only planetarium and one of a few on a college campus has been incredible!

College of Science Ambassador

After my sophomore year, I was nominated by the Astronomy Department to serve as one of their Science Ambassadors. As an Ambassador, I participate in recruitment and engagement events for the College of Science, ranging from personal Steward Observatory tours to sharing my experiences at prospective student info sessions to working at major events like the college's Honors Convocation and Graduation ceremonies. One of the biggest reasons I chose the University of Arizona was the tour I took with a Science Ambassador during my junior year of high school. Through my time as a Science Ambassador, I hope I inspire someone to come to Arizona and pursue astrophysics. For the 2022-2023 year, I was awarded the VIP Visit/Chat Superstar as the Ambassador who gave prospective students and their families the most VIP Visit tours and virtual video chats.
NASA Partner Eclipse Ambassador
Since September 2022, I am a part of the Eclipse Ambassador program, operated by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. My amateur astronomer partner and I both completed training to learn how to reach out to the community and share information about the October 2023 and April 2024 solar eclipses. We've participated in the 2023 Tucson Festival of Books and 2023 Tucson Astronomy Festival, reaching over 500 community members with information about the eclipses in Tucson and eclipse glasses to view the sun.
